Regular Season Round 11: Crnomelj - Branik 81-79

Date: January 14, 2017
A very interesting game took place in Crnomelj. It ended with only two-point defeat on the road of 11th ranked Branik (1-10) to ninth ranked Crnomelj (4-6) 81-79 on Saturday evening. The hosts started the game with a very strong first quarter 25-13. But Branik won second period 23-21. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. 24 personal fouls committed by Branik helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The best player for the winners was the former international center Ales Kunc (208-73, college: Missouri St.) who had a double-double by scoring 24 points and 11 rebounds (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line). Guard Nejc Butala (190-93) chipped in 22 points. Power forward Igor Spesic (204-83) produced a double-double by scoring 19 points and 13 rebounds and swingman Marko Cej (192-88) added 22 points respectively for the guests. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Crnomelj moved-up to eighth place, which they share with Pingvini. Branik lost their fourth game in a row. They keep the eleventh position with ten games lost. Crnomelj's next round opponent will be higher ranked Triglav (#4) in Kranj and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Branik will play on the road against Plama Pur (#3) in Ilirska Bistrica and hope to win that game.
