Regular Season Round 18: Pitesti - CSU Sibiu 71-80

The biggest surprise of round 18 was guest CSU Sibiu's (#3) road victory over Pitesti (#4) 80-71 on Friday evening. The guests trailed by 4 points after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 5-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 80-71. CSU Sibiu looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. 24 personal fouls committed by Pitesti helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The best player for the winners was Serbian point guard Igor Mijajlovic (192-84) who scored 21 points and 7 assists. American power forward Chris Cooper (205-90, college: ODU) chipped in a double-double by scoring 13 points and 13 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was American power forward Vincent Hunter (209-84, college: Arkansas) who recorded 20 points and 5 rebounds and Bulgarian Pavel Marinov (199-88, agency: Interperformances) added 15 points and 5 rebounds respectively. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. CSU Sibiu maintains third position with 11-6 record having just two points less than leader UBT Cluj Napoca. Pitesti at the other side dropped to the fifth place with seven games lost. They share the position with BC Timisoara. CSU Sibiu are looking forward to face Targu Mures (#7) at home in the next round. Pitesti will play against Olimpic in Baia Mare and is hoping to prove to their fans that the loss was just an accident.
