Regular Season Round 20: Trier - Crailsheim 85-88

Eighth-ranked Gladiators (10-10) used its home court advantage to challenge second ranked Crailsheim Merlins (16-4) in Trier on Saturday. The visitors from Crailsheim managed to secure only three-point victory 88-85. However their fans expected much easier game. Crailsheim Merlins made 23-of-29 free shots (79.3 percent) during the game, while Gladiators only scored six points from the stripe. American guard Chase Griffin (190-83, college: Pepperdine) orchestrated the victory by scoring 26 points and 5 rebounds (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line). The former international forward Konrad Wysocki (202-82, college: Princeton) contributed with 17 points for the winners. Four Crailsheim Merlins players scored in double figures. Point guard Simon Schmitz (188-90) replied with 30 points and 4 assists and American swingman Brandon Spearman (196-91, college: Hawaii) added 25 points and 11 rebounds in the effort for Gladiators. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Crailsheim Merlins have an impressive seven-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 16-4 record having just two points less than leader MBC. Gladiators at the other side dropped to the seventh place with ten games lost. They share the position with Oettinger R. and Koeln Rh.Stars. Crailsheim Merlins are looking forward to face Koeln Rh.Stars (#9) at home in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Gladiators will play against Chemnitz and are hoping to prove to their fans that this time they can win.
