There was an upset when higher ranked BG Karlsruhe (11-10) was defeated on the road by eleventh ranked Licher Basket (8-13) 88-82 on Saturday. Licher Basket looked well-organized offensively handing out 33 assists. American power forward Lamar Mallory (198-90, college: Glenville St.) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 21 points, 13 rebounds and 6 assists for the winners and guard Jeffrey Martin (190-94, agency: Octagon Europe) chipped in 18 points and 4 assists. Mallory is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top summer league for players who want to play basketball overseas. Licher Basket's coach Rolf Scholz used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to get some rest. The best for the losing side was naturalized American guard Kenny Fluellen (191-90, college: Paine) with 30 points and Russian-Israeli power forward Anton Kazarnovski (206-85) produced a double-double by scoring 11 points, 10 rebounds and 8 assists. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Licher Basket moved-up to tenth place in South. Loser BG Karlsruhe keeps the sixth position with ten games lost. Licher Basket will face USC Leipzig (#11) on the road in the next round.
