Second Stage Round 9: Sanjoanense - Ginasio 69-93

Everything could happen at the game between two tied teams. Both thirteenth ranked Ginasio and 14th ranked Sanjoanense had identical 4-4 record. But Sanjoanense was not able to use a home court advantage and was rolled over by the opponent from Figueira da Foz 93-69 on Saturday night. Ginasio shot the lights out from three sinking 13 long-distance shots on high 52.0 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. It was a good game for Bernardo Neves (192-96) who led his team to a victory with 23 points and 5 rebounds. Point guard Pedro Marques (173-95) contributed with 15 points and 9 assists for the winners. Swedish-American forward Elias Desport (203-92, college: St.Peter's) answered with a double-double by scoring 11 points and 12 rebounds and forward Pedro Azevedo (193-81) added 18 points in the effort for Sanjoanense. Sanjoanense's coach Augusto Almeida gave up on the game allowing to play twelve players seeing no chance for a win. Ginasio (5-4) moved-up to eleventh place in Places 9-16, which they share with Belenenses CF. Newly promoted Sanjoanense keeps the fourteenth position with five games lost. Ginasio will face bottom-ranked Academia (#16) in Lisboa in the next round which should be theoretically another easy game. Sanjoanense will play at home against Angrabasket and hope to win that game.
