Second Stage Round 12: Hoverla - Niko-Basket 91-66

Leader Hoverla delivered the sixteenth victory. This time they crushed 8th ranked Niko-Basket (4-17) 91-66 in Frankivsk. The game without a history. Hoverla led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. Hoverla outrebounded Niko-Basket 47-24 including a 36-17 advantage in defensive rebounds. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 36 assists comparing to just 22 passes made by Niko-Basket's players. Hoverla brought some defensive toughness making 8 blocks. It was a good game for the former international center Roman Gumeniuk (220-87) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 13 points, 13 rebounds and 8 blocks. Point guard Kyrylo Podkovyrov (180-96) contributed with a double-double by scoring 11 points and 10 assists for the winners. Point guard Andriy Khokhonyk (188-97) replied with 12 points and 5 assists and forward Sergiy Vershinin (195-95) added 10 points in the effort for Niko-Basket. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Hoverla have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 16-6 record. Niko-Basket lost third consecutive game. Newly promoted team keeps the eighth place with 17 games lost. Hoverla will play against Azovmash (#6) in Mariupol in the next round where they are favorite. Niko-Basket will play at home against Politekhn.Lvov and hopes to get back on the winning track.
