Second Stage Round 14: Khimik-2 - Niko-Basket 95-91

There was no surprise in Yuzhny where 8th ranked Niko-Basket (5-20) was defeated by second ranked Khimik-2 (17-9) 95-91 on Saturday. However just four-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. Niko-Basket was trailing by 4 points at halftime but managed to get 2-point lead after three quarters before a 28-22 charge of Khimik-2, which allowed them to win the game. They made 26-of-32 free shots (81.3 percent) during the game. Guard Olexiy Solovyov (187-97) had a double-double by scoring 32 points and 10 rebounds (was perfect 12-for-12 from the free throw line !!!) to lead the charge for the winners and forward Kyrylo Meshheryakov (197-95, agency: AproK Sports Group) chipped in 28 points and 8 rebounds during the contest. Four Khimik-2 players scored in double figures. Forward Sergiy Vershinin (195-95) responded with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 10 rebounds and swingman Maksym Ozhegov (190-90) scored 31 points and 4 steals. Khimik-2 maintains second position with 17-9 record having just three points less than leader Dnipro-2. Newly promoted Niko-Basket keeps the eighth place with 20 games lost. Khimik-2 will face Azovmash (#6) in Mariupol in the next round. Niko-Basket will play at home against BC-93 Pulsar and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
