There was no surprise when 6th ranked Giessen 46ers II (2-2) was defeated on the road by top-ranked SG Schwelmer Baskets (4-0) 78-72 on Saturday. SG Schwelmer Baskets made 21-of-27 free shots (77.8 percent) during the game. Giessen 46ers II was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. American guard Chris Hortman (190-88, college: Wisc.-Stout) fired a double-double by scoring 20 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners. Croatian power forward Sasha Cuic (208-83, college: Oregon St.) chipped in 10 points and 9 rebounds. American guard Jeril Taylor (193-94, college: S.Indiana) produced 25 points and 8 rebounds and the former international Johannes Lischka (203-87) added 19 points and 12 rebounds (made all of his seven free throws) respectively for lost side. SG Schwelmer Baskets have a solid four-game winning streak. They moved-up to second place in South, which they share with Iserlohn. Giessen 46ers II at the other side, also newcomer in the league, dropped to the fifth position with two games lost. SG Schwelmer Baskets will face Wuerzburg (#10) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Giessen 46ers II will play against Karlsruhe SC (#12) and hope to win that game.
