Regular Season Round 6: Rhein MB - Freiburg 61-62

A very close game took place in Langen between Eisvogel Freiburg and Rhein Main Baskets. Second ranked Eisvogel Freiburg (5-1) got a very close victory on the road over 9th ranked Rhein Main Baskets (1-4). Eisvogel Freiburg managed to escape with a 1-point win 62-61 on Saturday evening. Guest team only slightly avoided a big embarassment. The guests trailed by 4 points at the halftime before their 20-10 charge in the third quarter, which allowed them to win the game. American guard Kelly Hughes (180, college: Boston Coll.) notched a double-double by scoring 18 points and 12 rebounds to lead the effort and forward Kirsten Gaffney (185) supported her with 16 points and 12 rebounds. Even 18 points and 8 rebounds by American forward Tori Fisher (0, college: Colorado Springs) did not help to save the game for Rhein Main Baskets. Bosnian power forward Anja Stupar (182-89) added 14 points. Rhein Main Baskets' coach tested ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Eisvogel Freiburg have a solid four-game winning streak. They keep a position of South leader. Loser Rhein Main Baskets keep the ninth place with four games lost. Eisvogel Freiburg will meet at home league's second-placed Weiterstadt in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Rhein Main Baskets will play against Homburger TG (#4) and hope to win that game.
