Regular Season Round 5: Spartak Pleven - Balkan 81-102

NBL top team - Balkan (4-0) had no problems winning another game on Saturday. This time they crushed ninth ranked Spartak Pleven (0-5) 102-81. The game was mostly controlled by Balkan. Spartak Pleven managed to win third quarter 28-24. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Spartak Pleven 42-27 including a 31-18 advantage in defensive rebounds. Balkan looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. Serbian center Igor Kesar (210-92, agency: Mansfield and Associates) nailed 35 points (!!!), 5 rebounds and 4 assists (on 14-of-18 shooting from the field) for the winning side and American guard Brandon Fortenberry (190-90, college: SE Louisiana, agency: BeoBasket) accounted for 14 points and 6 rebounds. Point guard Nikolay Marinov (174-94) came up with 24 points, 7 assists and 5 steals and American forward Cedrick Bowen (198-92, college: Charleston So.) added 15 points respectively for Spartak Pleven in the defeat. Five Spartak Pleven players scored in double figures. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Balkan have a solid series of four victories in a row. They maintain first place with 4-0 record. Loser Spartak Pleven still closes the standings with five games lost. Balkan will meet at home league's second-placed Beroe in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Spartak Pleven will play against Levski 2014 (#6) in Sofia and hopes to get finally their first victory.
