Regular Season Round 6: UBT Cluj Napoca - Politehnica Iasi 89-60

Liga Nationala top team - UBT Cluj Napoca (5-1) had no problems winning another game. This time they crushed twelfth ranked Politehnica Iasi (0-6) 89-60. The game was mostly controlled by UBT Cluj Napoca. Politehnica Iasi was better in third quarter 20-13. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. UBT Cluj Napoca players were unselfish on offense dishing 23 assists comparing to just 10 passes made by Politehnica Iasi's players. The former international power forward Roland Torok (203-90, agency: HMS) notched 22 points and 8 rebounds to lead the effort and Croatian forward Zeljko Sakic (204-88, agency: BeoBasket) supported him with 14 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists. Four UBT Cluj Napoca players scored in double figures. UBT Cluj Napoca's coach Mihai Silvasan felt very confident that he used 10 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Even a double-double of 13 points, 12 rebounds and 4 blocks by American center Jaleel Roberts (213-92, college: NC-Asheville) did not help to save the game for Politehnica Iasi. American-Nigerian guard Mike Balogun (188-91, college: Arkansas Tech) added 18 points and 5 rebounds. Defending champion maintains first position with 5-1 record, which they share with Pitesti. Newly promoted Politehnica Iasi still closes the standings with six games lost. They share the position with Dinamo B.. UBT Cluj Napoca will play against Oradea (#6) at home in the next round where they are favorite. Politehnica Iasi will have a break next round.
