Regular Season Round 6: Benfica - Ovarense 83-81

Tenth-ranked Ovarense (2-6) gave a tough game to top-ranked Benfica (7-0) in Lisbona on Saturday. Benfica managed to secure only two-point victory 83-81. However their fans expected much easier game. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Ovarense won third quarter 20-18. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Benfica made 18-of-20 free shots (90.0 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. American power forward Raven Barber (206, college: Mt.St.Mary's) scored 14 points and 6 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and the other American import forward Antywane Robinson (203-84, college: Temple) chipped in 11 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists during the contest. Benfica's coach Jose Ricardo Rodrigues used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. The best for the losing side was Canadian-British forward Jermel Kennedy (201-89, college: Lander, agency: HMS) with 17 points, 6 rebounds and 8 assists and American point guard Will Perry (180-94, college: Lenoir-Rhyne) scored 19 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists. Four Ovarense players scored in double figures. Benfica have an impressive seven-game winning streak. Defending champion maintains first position with 7-0 record. Ovarense lost fourth consecutive game. They dropped to the eleventh place with six games lost. Benfica are looking forward to face Electrico FC (#9) in Ponte de Sor in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Ovarense will play at home against FC Porto Ferpinta and is hoping to prove to their fans that they can break losing series.
