A very close game took place in Weissenfels between EWE Baskets and Mitteldeutscher BC. Ninth ranked EWE Baskets (8-6) got a very close victory on the road over 13th ranked Mitteldeutscher BC (5-9). EWE Baskets managed to escape with a 1-point win 72-71 on Friday evening. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Mitteldeutscher BC. They outrebounded Mitteldeutscher BC 41-30 including 33 on the defensive glass. Austrian-Slovenian center Rasid Mahalbasic (210-90, agency: BeoBasket) scored 23 points and 9 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and Belgian Maxime De-Zeeuw (206-87) chipped in 9 points and 6 rebounds during the contest. Mitteldeutscher BC's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. EWE Baskets maintains ninth position with 8-6 record. Newly promoted Mitteldeutscher BC dropped to the fourteenth place with nine games lost. EWE Baskets will meet at home league's second-placed ALBA Berlin in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Mitteldeutscher BC will play against Brose Baskets (#7) in Bamberg and hope to secure a win.
