Regular Season Round 16: Arkadia - Gmunden 95-82

The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of top-ranked Gmunden Swans (12-2) in Traiskirchen on Thursday night. Visitors were defeated by third ranked Arkadia Lions (10-4) 95-82. It ended at the same time the 12-game winning streak of Gmunden Swans. It may be a crucial game in the contest for the top position in the league. Arkadia Lions made 19-of-24 free shots (79.2 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of Bosnian-Croatian power forward Jozo Brkic (211-86, agency: PEPI SPORT) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 21 points and 12 rebounds. The former international point guard Benedikt Danek (176-86) contributed with 26 points and 8 assists for the winners. Arkadia Lions' coach Zoran Kostic used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American guard Alex Wesby (198-80, college: Temple) replied with 17 points and 7 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) and the former international point guard Daniel Friedrich (181-92, agency: Athleadz) added 14 points, 6 assists and 4 steals in the effort for Gmunden Swans. Four Arkadia Lions and five Gmunden Swans players scored in double figures. Arkadia Lions moved-up to second place, which they share with Kapfenberg. Gmunden Swans at the other side still keep top position with two games lost. Arkadia Lions is looking forward to face bottom-ranked UBSC Graz (#9) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Gmunden Swans will play against the league's second-placed Kapfenberg Bulls (#2) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
