Regular Season Round 16: Dzukija - Nevezis 80-84

There was a small surprise when ninth ranked Nevezis (5-15) beat 7th ranked Dzukija (6-13) in Alytus 84-80. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Dzukija won third quarter 24-21. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Dzukija was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. Worth to mention a great performance of American point guard Lester Medford (178-93, college: Baylor, agency: 3Eye) who helped to win the game recording 19 points and 5 assists and forward Gabas Maldunas (206-93, college: Dartmouth) who added 10 points and 11 rebounds during the contest. At the losing side Russian center Anatoly Kashirov (215-87) responded with 14 points and 6 rebounds and forward Paulius Petrilevicius (200-91, agency: Octagon Europe) scored 11 points and 9 rebounds. Five Nevezis and four Dzukija players scored in double figures. Dzukija's coach Nikola Vasilev tried various players' combinations and tested in total twelve players in this game, but that didn't help. Nevezis maintains ninth position with 5-15 record. Dzukija lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the seventh place with 13 games lost. They share the position with P.Zvaigzdes. Nevezis will play against higher ranked Juventus (#5) in Utena in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Dzukija will have a break next round.
