There was no surprise when 12th ranked Science City Jena (8-10) was defeated on the road by eighth ranked ratiopharm Ulm (11-7) 87-72 on Saturday. American swingman Ryan Thompson (198-89, college: Rider, agency: BeoBasket) fired 24 points for the winners. International point guard Ismet Akpinar (190-95, agency: BeoBasket) chipped in 19 points. Five ratiopharm Ulm players scored in double figures. American forward Derrick Allen (201-80, college: Mississippi) produced 22 points and 6 rebounds and Maximilian Ugrai (201-95) added 22 points and 5 rebounds (made all of his seven free throws) respectively for lost side. Science City Jena's coach tested ten players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. ratiopharm Ulm moved-up to seventh place. Loser Science City Jena dropped to the eleventh position with ten games lost. They share it with Giessen 46ers. ratiopharm Ulm will meet BG Goettingen (#15) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Science City Jena will play against Braunschweig (#13) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
