Regular Season Round 18: Saarlouis/Dillingen - Kaiserslautern 81-97

There was a surprise result when eighth ranked Kaiserslautern (9-8) beat on the road higher ranked Saarlouis/Dillingen (12-5) 97-81 on Saturday. Strangely Saarlouis/Dillingen outrebounded Kaiserslautern 49-35 including 35 on the defensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. American point guard Japhet McNeil (183-85, college: Bridgeport) scored 15 points and 9 assists to lead the charge for the winners and the other American import power forward Aaron Ellis (205-87, college: Wichita St.) chipped in 13 points and 9 rebounds during the contest. Worth to mention McNeil played also at Eurobasket Summer League, which helped get the job in pro basketball. The best for the losing side was Swedish forward Alan Bedirhanoglu (190-96) with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 14 rebounds and Swedish forward Samme Unger (196-94) scored 18 points and 9 rebounds. Five Kaiserslautern and four Saarlouis/Dillingen players scored in double figures. Kaiserslautern moved-up to seventh place in South-West, which they share with Stuttgart. Loser Saarlouis/Dillingen keeps the fourth position with five games lost. Kaiserslautern will face Crailsheim II (#11) at home in the next round. Saarlouis/Dillingen will play against Mainz (#12) and hope to win that game.
