Regular Season Round 17: Politehnica Iasi - BC Timisoara 77-100
Date: February 22, 2018
Very expected game when 11th ranked Politehnica Iasi (2-13) was rolled over at home by fifth ranked BC Timisoara (12-5) 100-77 on Thursday. The game was mostly controlled by BC Timisoara. Politehnica Iasi was better in fourth quarter 27-16. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. BC Timisoara shot 60.3 percent from the field. They also forced 22 Politehnica Iasi turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. Politehnica Iasi was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. The best player for the winners was Cuban-American center Adrian Diaz (213-93, college: FIU) who scored 18 points and 6 rebounds (perfect from the field making all eight shots !!!). International point guard Octavian Calota (189-84) chipped in 17 points. Five BC Timisoara players scored in double figures. American guard Tayloe Taylor (191-86, college: Livingstone) produced 18 points and 6 assists and Serbian-Croatian Sinisa Cvetanovic (205-94) added 9 points and 9 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. The victory was the third consecutive win for BC Timisoara. They moved-up to third place, which they share with Steaua CSM. Politehnica Iasi lost their fifth game in a row. Newly promoted team keeps the eleventh position with 13 games lost. BC Timisoara will face Steaua CSM (#4) in Bucuresti in the next round. Politehnica Iasi will play at home against Pitesti (#6) and hope to win that game.
