Leader Benfica delivered the eighteenth victory on Sunday night. This time they crushed 11th ranked Barreirense (3-18) 104-56 in Barreiro. Benfica made 22-of-25 free shots (88.0 percent) during the game. Benfica outrebounded Barreirense 43-18 including a 32-14 advantage in defensive rebounds. They shot the lights out from three sinking 14 long-distance shots on high 53.8 percentage. Benfica looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists comparing to just 7 passes made by Barreirense's players. It was a great evening for the former international swingman Jose Silva (194-89) who led his team to a victory scoring 27 points. Naturalized Angolan guard Carlos Morais (200-85, agency: Duran International) helped adding 13 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. Benfica's coach Jose Ricardo Rodrigues felt very confident that he used 11 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the losing side American forward Demetric Austin (201, college: Dillard) responded with 25 points and 5 rebounds and swingman Tiago Raimundo (194-90) scored 6 points. Benfica have a solid series of three victories in a row. Defending champion maintains first place with 18-3 record. Barreirense lost fifth consecutive game. Newly promoted team keeps the eleventh position with 18 games lost. They share it with Electrico FC. Benfica will meet at home Illiabum (#6) in the next round which should be theoretically another easy game. Barreirense will play against FC Porto Ferpinta (#3) and hope to secure a win.
