Second Stage Round 8: Beira Mar - Vasco 78-73

There was a small surprise in Aveiro where fourteenth ranked Beira Mar (7-15) defeated 11th ranked Vasco (9-11) 78-73 on Saturday. They outrebounded Vasco 37-24 including 25 on the defensive glass. Worth to mention a great performance of American forward Andre Jackson (198, college: Bowie St.) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 25 points and 10 rebounds and guard Goncalo Catarino (173-94) who added 17 points and 6 rebounds during the contest. Four Beira Mar players scored in double figures. Guard Sandro Madureira (186-96) responded with 22 points and 6 rebounds and forward Ricardo Alpuim (191-88) produced a double-double by scoring 14 points and 12 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Newly promoted Beira Mar maintains fourteenth position in Places 9-16 with 7-15 record. Loser Vasco keeps the eleventh place with 11 games lost. Beira Mar will face bottom-ranked Moscavide (#16) on the road in the next round.
