There was a surprise result when eleventh ranked Hamm (4-4) beat at home one of their biggest challengers Ibbenbueren (4-4) 81-71 on Saturday. The winners were led by naturalized Bosnian forward Mateo Zovko (193-1998, college: Laramie CC) who scored that evening 22 points and center Jascal Knoerig (206-2000) supported him with 17 points and 7 rebounds (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field). Hamm's coach Ivan Rosic used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Even a double-double of 16 points and 17 rebounds by Kai Hanig did not help to save the game for Ibbenbueren. American-Spanish Marco Porcher Jimenez (193-1992, college: FIU) added 20 points for the guests. Hamm moved-up to fourth place, which they share with 12 other teams including defeated Ibbenbueren. Hamm will meet Hagen-Haspe (#10) on the road in the next round where they are favorite. Ibbenbueren will play against Hertener Loewen (#4) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
