There was a surprise result when fourteenth ranked Aachen (2-10) won against at home higher ranked Hamm (6-6) 86-78 on Saturday. The winners were led by swingman Tim Schoenborn (193-1990) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 20 points, 11 rebounds and 5 assists and American forward Sasha French (211-1996, college: Azusa Pacific) supported him with 24 points and 9 rebounds. Aachen's coach used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. Even 12 points, 9 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals by American guard Tyler Brevard (189-1998, college: Lander) did not help to save the game for Hamm. Center Jascal Knoerig (206-2000) added 14 points, 9 rebounds and 4 blocks (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). Four Aachen and five Hamm players scored in double figures. Aachen moved-up to thirteenth place, which they share with Giessen Ak. Hamm at the other side keeps the fifth position with six games lost. They share it with 6 other teams. Aachen will meet Hertener Loewen (#13) on the road in the next round. Hamm will play against Bonn 2 (#6) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
