Regular Season Round 14: Zalgiris II - Birzu 117-82

Not a big story in a game in Kaunas where 10th ranked Birzu (3-10) was rolled over by seventh ranked Zalgiris II (7-6) 117-82 on Tuesday. The game was mostly controlled by Zalgiris II. Birzu managed to win third quarter 22-20. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Birzu 62-26 including a 23-5 advantage in offensive rebounds. Zalgiris II looked well-organized offensively handing out 33 assists comparing to just 12 passes made by Birzu's players. Ignas Eidukevicius (-2005) had a double-double by scoring 35 points (!!!) and 10 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and forward Augustas Navickas (190-2005) chipped in 12 points, 19 rebounds and 10 assists during the contest. Four Zalgiris II players scored in double figures. Zalgiris II's coach Arunas Visockas felt very confident that he used 11 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Guard Dovydas Kacinskas (185-2005) responded with a double-double by scoring 37 points (!!!) and 10 rebounds and point guard Nojus Petraitis (178-2005) scored 13 points and 8 assists. Zalgiris II moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Zalgiris. Birzu at the other side keeps the tenth position with ten games lost. Zalgiris II is looking forward to face Marijampoles (#11) on the road in the next round where they are favorite. Birzu will play against the league's leader VKKM and is hoping to prove to their fans that the loss was just an accident.
