Everything went according to plan when third ranked Artland Dragons (18-9) beat on the road 17th ranked Leverkusen (8-19) 90-83 on Saturday. Artland Dragons made 18-of-23 free shots (78.3 percent) during the game. They also forced 19 Leverkusen turnovers. The best player for the winners was American guard William Christmas (196-1996, college: CPP) who scored 25 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists. His fellow American import guard Damari Milstead (188-1999, college: CS Fullerton) chipped in 22 points. Artland Dragons' coach Julien Patrick Flomo used an eleven-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. At the other side the best for losing team was American forward Nick Hornsby (201-1995, college: Sacramento St.) who recorded 18 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists and Bosnian center Dejan Kovacevic (210-1996) added 20 points and 8 rebounds respectively. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Artland Dragons maintains third place with 18-9 record having four points less than leader Vechta. Leverkusen lost third consecutive game. They keep the seventeenth position with 19 games lost. Artland Dragons will meet at home Uni Baskets (#9) in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Leverkusen will play against the league's second-placed Tigers (#2) in Tuebingen and hope to secure a win.
