Regular Season Round 21: Blyskavky 2 - Dnipro 43-72

Bottom-ranked Blyskavky 2 (0-22) is still winless. But it was rather predictable considering how strong their opponent was. This time they could not use their home court advantage losing their 22th consecutive match to second ranked Dnipro (9-10) 72-43 on Friday evening. The game was mostly controlled by Dnipro. Blyskavky 2 managed to win fourth quarter 13-10. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Blyskavky 2 to just 6 points in first quarter and to 14 points in first half. Dnipro dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Blyskavky 2's 26. Dnipro forced 19 Blyskavky 2 turnovers and outrebounded them 57-24 including a 18-4 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists comparing to just 8 passes made by Blyskavky 2's players. The best player for the winners was forward Kateryna Chernysh (175-2006) who had a double-double by scoring 15 points, 13 rebounds and 5 assists. Guard Kseniya Afanasyeva (170-1993) chipped in 18 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists. At the other side the best for losing team was guard Victoria Bogachenko (170-2005) who recorded 24 points and center Daryna Lesko (182-2008) added 7 points and 9 rebounds respectively. Blyskavky 2's coach already knew that her team would not have a big chance, so allowed to play ten players seeing no chance for a win. Dnipro have a solid series of four victories in a row. Newly promoted Dnipro maintains second place with 9-10 record having sixteen points less than leader Kyiv Basket. Blyskavky 2 at the other side, also newcomer in the league, still closes the standings with 22 games lost. Dnipro will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Blyskavky 2 will play again against the league's second-placed Dnipro (#2) and looks forward to get finally their first victory.
