Very important is a home loss of third ranked Cherkasy (4-3) against fourth ranked Zaporizhye (4-4) on Wednesday night. Host Cherkasy was defeated by Zaporizhye in Cherkasy 80-68. The game was mostly controlled by Zaporizhye. Cherkasy managed to win second period 23-18. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Strangely Cherkasy outrebounded Zaporizhye 41-29 including 29 on the defensive glass. The former international forward Oleksandr Sizov (197-1988) nailed a double-double by scoring 17 points and 11 rebounds (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line) for the winning side and guard Vitaliy Bykov (190-1996) accounted for 17 points, 6 assists and 5 steals. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Despite that victory Zaporizhye went down to sixth position due to points difference. Loser Cherkasy dropped to the fourth place with three games lost. They share the position with Kyiv Basket. Zaporizhye will meet Stariy Lutsk (#8) on the road in the next round. Cherkasy will play against the league's second-placed Budivelnyk (#2) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
