Very expected game when 7th ranked Gold Coast Blaze (6-9) was rolled over on the road by third ranked Cairns Taipans (9-4) 96-76. Strangely Gold Coast Blaze outrebounded Cairns Taipans 48-30 including a 35-23 advantage in defensive rebounds. The former international power forward Alexander Loughton (205-83, college: ODU) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 14 rebounds. Center Ian Crosswhite (212-82, college: Oregon) contributed with 16 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. The former international forward Mark Worthington (202-83, college: Metro St.) answered with 21 points and American power forward Ira Clark (203-75, college: Texas) added 16 points in the effort for Gold Coast Blaze. Five Cairns Taipans and four Gold Coast Blaze players scored in double figures. Cairns Taipans has a solid series of three victories in a row. Despite that victory Cairns Taipans went down to fourth position due to points difference. Gold Coast Blaze at the other side dropped to the sixth place with nine games lost. Cairns Taipans will play against Adelaide 36ers (#7) in Findon in the next round. Gold Coast Blaze will play at home against Melbourne Tigers and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
