Regular Season Round 5: Balkan - Levski Sofia 72-85
Date: November 13, 2010
Levski Sofia took a well-deserved win visiting Balkan Botevgrad in Botevgrad 85:72. The Blues recovered from a tough loss in Belgrade in the Balkan League midweek, and showed good defense to shut down the hosts. In the crowded arena in Botevgrad, Levski Sofia was leading all the way and though Balkan Botevgrad managed to make it close game in the end of the third and the start of last quarter, they never really threatened the visiting team. Jason Crowe led the show in the beginning with couple of three-pointers, while for a first time this NBL season Stanislav Slaveikov earned a starting spot. Levski Sofia also smashed Balkan Botevgrad on the glass, but again was not too sharp from the three-point line. Bulgarian League leading scorer Aaron Harper made it to 23 points this time, missing opportunities to increase that in the second half. Donald Cole has his best scoring game in the NBL this season with 14 points from the bench, but fouled out after 22 minutes. His best game so far made also Gjorgji Cekovski with 12 points and 9 rebounds. Crowe finished with 13 points and 6 assists. Double digits, but in rebounds, managed Stefan Georgiev 11 plus eight points. Good entrance from the bench made Boyko Mladenov and Pavel Ivanov. Levski Sofias defense meant less shots by Balkan Botevgrad, but still Josh Gonner got 17 points, Georgi Davidov 12, and Jordan Bozov 11 plus 8 assists. Great performance for young Dimitar Filipov, who scored 12 points from the bench and made couple of fine passes, including one that set up 19-years old Stanimir Marinov (191-G-91) for alley-oop dunk. *by Maria Mitzova
