Ikaros' home win over bottom-ranked Ilysiakos 72-70 was very exciting and close contest. Ilysiakos was very close to get their first win. But it seems they have to wait a little bit longer. It was a great evening for American forward Deon Thompson (203-88, college: N.Carolina) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 13 rebounds. Center Stavros Tountziarakis (210-87, agent: Giorgos Dimitropoulos) helped adding 19 points. At the losing side guard Alexis Kiritsis (198-82) responded with 18 points and American guard Jimmy Baxter (198-80, college: S.Florida) scored 15 points. Four Ilysiakos players scored in double figures. Both coaches allowed to play bench players in such tough game. Ilysiakos lost their seventh straight game in a row. The victory allowed Ikaros (4-3) who are in their first very successful season in the A1 to climb to third place. They share it with four other teams. Seventh consecutive loss means that Ilysiakos is still at the bottom of the standings. Ikaros will face Peristeri GS (#4) at Athens in the next round. Ilysiakos' supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Athens Olympiakos.
