Regular Season Round 28: Jaguares - Potros 80-94
Date: December 4, 2010
There was no surprise in Nayarit where 17th ranked Jaguares (2-31) were defeated by eleventh ranked Potros (17-19) 94-80. It looked good early as Jaguares took an 10-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Potros took control and eventually winning the game that evening by 14 points. They made 25-of-31 charity shots (80.6 percent) during the game. Potros outrebounded Jaguares 35-21 including a 24-13 advantage in defensive rebounds. The winners were led by American-Guyanese forward Gordon James (198-79, college: Bridgeport) who scored that evening 19 points and 9 rebounds and American forward Sammy Monroe (198-85, college: Newberry, agency: Prossin Sports Management) supported him with 19 points and 6 rebounds (made all of his nine free throws !!!). Monroe is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Four Potros players scored in double figures. Potros' coach Dan Tacheny used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Even 34 points (!!!) (made all of his eight free throws) by Erick Ortiz did not help to save the game for Jaguares. American forward Fred Hooks (198-82, college: Humboldt St.) added 21 points for lost side. Potros maintains eleventh position with 17-19 record. Newly promoted Jaguares keep the seventeenth place with 31 games lost. Potros' next round opponent will be higher ranked Angeles (#6) in Puebla and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Jaguares will play on the road against Halcones UV Xalapa (#3) having rather not much hope for a victory.
