Regular Season Round 8: Maccabi Ashdod - Maccabi T-A 62-84
Date: December 6, 2010
An interesting game was also a 22-point home defeat of 5th ranked Maccabi Ashdod in a game versus Maccabi T-A (#1) 62-84 ending at the same time the three-game winning streak of Maccabi Ashdod. The winners were led by Greek center Sofoklis Schortsanitis (206-85) who scored that evening 19 points and 9 rebounds and international forward Lior Eliyahu (207-85, agent: Yossi Gayer) who supported him with 14 points. Even a double-double of 15 points and 13 rebounds by American power forward Wayne Wallace (206-80, college: Virginia Union, agent: Arik Krayn) did not help to save the game for Maccabi Ashdod. The former international guard Meir Tapiro (194-75, agent: Avi Zilberman) added 5 points, 9 rebounds and 7 assists for the hosts. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Maccabi T-A (7-1) of course still keep top position in the standings. Maccabi Ashdod keeps the fifth position with 4-4 record. Maccabi T-A will meet Maccabi Haifa (#9) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Maccabi Ashdod will play against the league's second-placed Galil Gilboa (#2) and hope to secure a win.
