An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Auckland. First ranked New Zealand Breakers faced 3rd placed Cairns Taipans. Host New Zealand Breakers (12-3) defeated guests from Cairns (9-4) 93-79. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Cairns Taipans. It was a very close game until the last quarter, when New Zealand Breakers's pressure prevailed and they won that period 27-19 extending their advantage to 14 points. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 29 assists comparing to just 14 passes made by Cairns Taipans' players. It was a good game for guard Kirk Penney (196-80, college: Wisconsin) who led his team to a victory with 25 points and 6 assists. New Zealand Breakers maintains first place with 12-3 record. Cairns Taipans at the other side dropped to the fourth position with four games lost. New Zealand Breakers will play against Melbourne Tigers (#8) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Cairns Taipans will play against Townsville Crocodiles (#3) in Wulguru and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
