Regular Season Round 9: Hawks - 36ers 81-79

Sixth-ranked Adelaide 36ers (5-9) made lots of trouble for fourth ranked Wollongong Hawks (9-7) in Gwynneville on Friday. Wollongong Hawks managed to secure only two-point victory 81-79. However their fans expected easier game. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 24-16. But Adelaide 36ers won second period 20-15. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Wollongong Hawks made 17-of-22 free shots (77.3 percent) during the game. The best player for the winners was American guard Gary Ervin (186-83, college: Arkansas) who scored 31 points and 6 assists. The former international forward Oscar Forman (205-82) chipped in 17 points. At the other side the best for losing team was the former international forward Adam Ballinger (205-79, college: Michigan St.) who recorded 19 points and 6 rebounds and the former international guard Rhys Carter (190-84) added 16 points and 4 assists respectively. Four Adelaide 36ers players scored in double figures. Despite that victory Wollongong Hawks went down to fifth position due to points difference. Adelaide 36ers at the other side dropped to the seventh place with nine games lost. Wollongong Hawks are looking forward to face league's leader New Zealand Breakers in Auckland in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Adelaide 36ers will play at home against Kings (#9) in Sydney and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
