Regular Season Round 8: Athinaikos - Aris 66-61

The most interesting game of round 8 in the A1 was a road defeat of 3rd ranked Aris (5-3) to first ranked Athinaikos (8-0) 61-66. It ended the five-game winning streak of Aris. Aris was ahead by -8 points at halftime and as many as 2 after three quarters before a 24-17 charge of Athinaikos, which allowed them to win the game. They made 19-of-23 free shots (82.6 percent) during the game. Athinaikos forced 20 Aris turnovers and had a 17-4 advantage in offensive rebounds. Worth to mention a great performance of international guard Dimitra Kalentzou (174-78) who helped to win the game recording 25 points and American power forward LaToya Davis (186-84, college: Texas Tech) who added 8 points and 14 rebounds during the contest. Athinaikos' coach Ioannis Ktistakis used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. American guard Camille LeNoir (168-86, college: USC) responded with 18 points and 5 assists and British guard Chantelle Handy (191-87, college: Marshall) scored 17 points and 6 rebounds. Athinaikos have an impressive eight-game winning streak. Current champion stay at first position. Aris who is 5-3 went down to fifth place as they suffered their third loss. Athinaikos' supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Athens to the arena Panionios.
