Regular Season Round 19: Kataja - KTP 89-70

The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of top-ranked KTP-Basket (16-3) on the court of third ranked Joensuun Kataja on Saturday night. KTP-Basket was rolled over by Joensuun Kataja 89-70. Joensuun Kataja trailed by 2 points after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 3-point lead at the halftime and eventually win the game 89-70. Joensuun Kataja made 21-of-27 free shots (77.8 percent) during the game. It was a great evening for American swingman Jared Newson (195-84, college: Tennessee-Martin, agent: Side Court) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 12 rebounds. The former international power forward Sami Lehtoranta (205-79) helped adding 26 points. At the losing side American forward Jerald Fields (201-82, college: E.Tenn.St., agent: Chris Kupcunas) responded with 19 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists and Canadian forward Sefton Barrett (196-83, college: Cent.Michigan, agent: Ingo Wolf) scored 22 points and 5 rebounds. Despite the victory Joensuun Kataja (13-6) stay at third position having just three points less than leader KTP. This loss did not change KTP-Basket's (16-3) top position in the standings as they suffered their third loss. Joensuun Kataja is looking forward to face Espoon Honka (#6) on the road in the next round. KTP-Basket will play against Salon Vilpas (#10) and is hoping to win this game.
