Regular Season Round 8: GTU Tbilisi - Sokhumi 57-79
Date: December 11, 2010
Bottom-ranked GTU is still unable to win any game. This time they could not use their home court advantage losing their eighth consecutive match to fifth ranked Sokhumi (6-3) 57-79 on Saturday evening. Sokhumi dominated on the defensive end, holding GTU to just 7 points in second quarter. Sokhumi dominated down low during the game scoring 50 of its points in the paint compared to GTU's 24. Sokhumi forced 20 GTU turnovers and outrebounded GTU 69-36 including a 27-15 advantage in offensive rebounds. The winners were led by American forward Richard Damus (198-83, college: Troy) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 19 points and 14 rebounds and guard Lasha Parghalava (191-87, college: Montana St. - Billin) who supported him with 21 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists. Even 16 points and 9 rebounds by forward Zviad Antadze (198-88, college: Monroe Coll.) did not help to save the game for GTU. Forward Vasili Beruashvili (198-90) added 7 points and 7 rebounds for the hosts. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the change for the coaches to test many bench players seeing no chance for a win. Sokhumi jumped to the fourth spot. They share the position with TSU Tbilisi. GTU still at the very bottom with 0-8 record. Sokhumi will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. GTU's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Tbilisi to the arena Samedicino-Academia.
