Regular Season Round 9: Wildcats - Tigers 87-76

There was no surprise when 7th ranked Melbourne Tigers (5-10) were defeated on the road by second ranked Perth Wildcats (11-5) 87-76 on Sunday. The game was mostly controlled by Perth Wildcats. Melbourne Tigers managed to win third quarter 26-20. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Perth Wildcats forced 19 Melbourne Tigers turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. The former international forward Shawn Redhage (203-81, college: Arizona St., agency: Warren Sports International) stepped up and scored 22 points and 8 rebounds for the winners and international guard Damian Martin (188-84, college: Loyola Marymount) chipped in 18 points and 7 rebounds. The best for the losing side was the former international center Luke Nevill (218-86, college: Utah) with 17 points and 9 rebounds and power forward Cameron Tragardh (209-83, college: ORU) scored 18 points and 7 rebounds. Four Melbourne Tigers players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Defending champion maintains second place with 11-5 record behind leader Breakers. Loser Melbourne Tigers dropped to the eighth position with ten games lost. Perth Wildcats will meet at home bottom-ranked Kings (#9) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Melbourne Tigers will play against the league's leader New Zealand Breakers in Auckland and hope to secure a win.
