There was a small surprise in Helsinki where seventh ranked Torpan Pojat (10-9) defeated 5th ranked UU-Korihait (11-8) 89-79. UU-Korihait was tied at the half but could not keep up in last two quarters eventually losing the game. Torpan Pojat outrebounded UU-Korihait 46-33 including 20 on the offensive glass. They brought some defensive toughness making 7 blocks. It was an exceptional evening for forward Timo Heinonen (198-81) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 24 points and 10 rebounds. American guard Frank Richards (188-82, college: Kansas St.) accounted for 20 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists for the winning side. American forward Lawrence Wright (195-84, college: Bradley) came up with 22 points and the other American import swingman Nigel Moore (195-81, college: Alabama A&M) added 19 points and 6 rebounds respectively for UU-Korihait in the defeat. Four UU-Korihait players scored in double figures. Torpan Pojat has a solid series of three victories in a row. Despite the win they stay at seventh position. UU-Korihait is currently in fifth place with a 11-8 record as they suffered their eighth loss. Torpan Pojat will play against bottom-ranked Porvoon Tarmo (#12) on the road in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. UU-Korihait will play against the league's second-placed Tampereen Pyrinto (#2) having rather not much hope for a victory.
