Regular Season Round 9: Galil Gilboa - Maccabi Ashdod 83-89

Third-ranked Galil Gilboa (5-4) was defeated by fifth ranked Maccabi Ashdod (5-4) in a tough game in Galil 83-89. It looked good early as Galil Gilboa took an 8-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Maccabi Ashdod took control and eventually getting 6-point vistory that evening. They made 25-of-29 charity shots (86.2 percent) during the game. Galil Gilboa was plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. American power forward Josh Duncan (204-86) nailed a double-double by scoring 19 points and 12 rebounds for the winning side and his fellow American import swingman Josh Carter (201-88, college: Texas A&M) accounted for 28 points. Maccabi Ashdod's coach Ofer Berkovic allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. International guard Gal Mekel (195-88, college: Wichita St.) came up with 16 points, 6 rebounds and 9 assists and international guard Dagan Yavzuri (193-85) added 18 points and 6 rebounds respectively for Galil Gilboa in the defeat. Four Galil Gilboa players scored in double figures. The victory allowed Maccabi Ashdod (5-4) who are in their first very successful season in the Premier League to climb to the third place. They share it with defeated Galil Gilboa and Bnei Hasharon. Maccabi Ashdod will play against Ironi Ashkelon (#9) at home in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Galil Gilboa will play against the league's leader Maccabi T-A (#1) in Tel-Aviv and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
