Regular Season Round 11: Polpharma - Stelmet ZG 82-61
Date: December 18, 2010
Very important is a road loss of third ranked Zastal (6-5) against ninth ranked Polpharma (5-6) on Saturday night. Visiting Zastal was crushed by ninth ranked Polpharma (5-6) in Starogard 82-61. It looked good early as Zastal took an 1-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Polpharma had a 22-20 second period charge getting the lead and Zastal was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 61-82. Polpharma were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists. The former international guard Robert Skibniewski (182-83) orchestrated the victory by scoring 19 points. American guard Deonta Vaughn (185-86, college: Cincinnati) contributed with 10 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists for the winners. American center Chris Burgess (209-79, college: Utah) answered with a double-double by scoring 10 points and 13 rebounds and the other American import swingman Trenton Marshall (194-87, college: Jacksonville St.) added 16 points in the effort for Zastal. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Polpharma moved-up to seventh place, which they share with Polonia Azbud. Newly promoted Zastal dropped to the fourth position with five games lost. Polpharma will play against bottom-ranked Siarka (#12) in Tarnobrzeg in the next round which should be theoretically another easy game. Zastal will play on the road against Asseco Prokom (#5) in Gdynia and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
