Regular Season Round 13: LSU-Baltai - Zalgiris 59-73

Round 13 most exciting game was a derby match between two local teams from Kaunas: Zalgiris (#1) and Aiscai (#7). Aiscai was defeated at home 59-73 and even the advantage of their own court did not help. The guests were tied at the half but managed to speed up in last two quarters eventually winning the game. Zalgiris outrebounded Aiscai Kaunas 38-24 including 26 on the defensive glass. Worth to mention a great performance of the former international forward Paulius Jankunas (205-84, agency: Interperformances) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 10 points and 11 rebounds. Egyptian-American center Omar Samhan (211-88, college: St.Mary's, CA) contributed with 11 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. Zalgiris' coach Rimantas Grigas used a eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Guard Sarunas Vasiliauskas (188-89) answered with 27 points and the former international guard Vytenis Jasikevicius (187-85) added 13 points in the effort for Aiscai Kaunas. Zalgiris (10-0) have an impressive series of ten victories in a row. They of course still keep top position in the standings. Aiscai Kaunas lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the ninth place with 4-7 record. Zalgiris are looking forward to face Neptunas (#8) in Klaipeda in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Aiscai Kaunas will have a break next round.
