Eighth-ranked Benetton Treviso (5-6) made lots of trouble for first ranked Montepaschi Siena (10-1) on Tuesday. The visitors from Siena managed to secure only two-point victory 79-77. However their fans expected much easier game. The guests started the game with a very strong first quarter 25-16. But Benetton Treviso won second period 22-14. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Montepaschi Siena won last quarter 22-22. They made 20-of-26 free shots (76.9 percent) during the game. It was a great evening for American-FYR Macedonian guard Bo Lester McCalebb (183-85, college: New Orleans) who led his team to a victory scoring 13 points. Lithuanian center Ksistof Lavrinovic (210-79) helped adding 11 points. Four Montepaschi Siena players scored in double figures. Montepaschi Siena's coach Simone Pianigiani used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. American-Swiss forward Greg Brunner (201-83, college: Iowa) responded with 21 points and 9 rebounds (on 9-of-10 shooting from the field) and Croatian forward Hrvoje Peric (203-85) scored 13 points. Montepaschi Siena have an impressive series of eight victories in a row. Defending champion maintains first place with 10-1 record. Benetton Treviso at the other side dropped to the seventh position with six games lost. They share it with 5 other teams. Montepaschi Siena will meet at home CS Bologna (#5) in the next round. Benetton Treviso will play against Vanoli-Braga in Cremona and hope to secure a win.
