Fifteenth-ranked Zhejiang Cyclones (2-6) gave a tough game to top-ranked DongGuan Leopards (7-0) in Hangzhou on Wednesday. The visitors from DongGuan managed to secure only three-point victory 108-105. However their fans expected much easier game. The guests started the game with a very strong first quarter 21-10. But Zhejiang Cyclones won second period 33-26. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. DongGuan Leopards made 33-of-43 free shots (76.7 percent) during the game, while Zhejiang Cyclones only scored seventeen points from the stripe. DongGuan Leopards forced 26 Zhejiang Cyclones turnovers. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when DongGuan Leopards made 7 blocks. 31 personal fouls committed by Zhejiang Cyclones helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Worth to mention a great performance of American-Lebanese power forward Jackson Vroman (208-81, college: Iowa St.) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 33 points (!!!), 10 rebounds and 4 blocks and Nigerian guard Josh-Emmanuel Akognon (180-86, college: Cal.St. Fullerton) who added 21 points and 5 rebounds during the contest. Four DongGuan Leopards players scored in double figures. American guard Michael James (184-75, college: Duquesne) responded with 33 points (!!!), 5 rebounds, 7 assists and 4 steals and his fellow American import power forward Josh Boone (208-84, college: Connecticut) produced a double-double by scoring 21 points and 12 rebounds (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field). Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. DongGuan Leopards have an impressive seven-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 7-0 record, which they share with Xinjiang. Zhejiang Cyclones at the other side keep the fifteenth place with six games lost. DongGuan Leopards is looking forward to face Jilin Tigers (#11) in Changchun in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Zhejiang Cyclones will play at home against Foshan (#12) and are hoping to prove to their fans that this time they can win.
