Regular Season Round 24: Kataja - Namika Lahti 90-68

Very predictable result when third ranked Joensuun Kataja (16-8) outscored at home 8th ranked Namika Lahti (10-13) 90-68 on Sunday. The game was mostly controlled by Joensuun Kataja. Namika Lahti managed to win fourth quarter 21-20. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Joensuun Kataja dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Namika Lahti's 32. The best player for the winners was American swingman Jared Newson (195-84, college: Tennessee-Martin, agency: Court Side) who had a double-double by scoring 15 points and 10 rebounds. International swingman Antti Kanervo (193-89) chipped in 19 points and 4 assists. Five Joensuun Kataja players scored in double figures. Joensuun_Kataja's coach Jukka Toijala felt very confident that he used 11 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the other side the best for losing team was American forward Anthony Vereen (201-86, college: Texas Arlington) who recorded 19 points and 7 rebounds and his fellow American import guard Ryan Ayers (201-86, college: Notre Dame) added 13 points respectively. Joensuun Kataja maintains third position with 16-8 record having four points less than leader KTP. Namika Lahti at the other side keeps the eighth place with 13 games lost. Joensuun Kataja is looking forward to face Torpan Pojat (#7) in Helsinki in the next round. Namika Lahti will play at home against Salon Vilpas and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
