Very expected game when 11th ranked Assigeco BPL (5-8) was edged on the road by fifth ranked Sigma Barcellona (9-4) 95-92 on Sunday. However just three-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 30-25. But Assigeco BPL won second period 22-21. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Sigma Barcellona won last quarter 27-26. They also forced 22 Assigeco BPL turnovers. It was a great shooting night for Sigma Barcellona especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 55.6 percentage. Assigeco BPL was plagued by 32 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a very good performance for American guard Joseph Crispin (186-79, college: Penn St., agency: Interperformances) who helped to win the game recording 31 points and 9 assists (made all of his eight free throws). Center Manuele Mocavero (203-80) contributed with 21 points and 7 rebounds (on 8-of-9 shooting from the field) for the winners. Sigma Barcellona's coach Cesare Pancotto used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. American guard Paul Marigney (192-82, college: St.Mary's, CA) answered with 23 points and 4 assists and the other American import forward Ruben Boykin (201-85, college: N.Arizona) added 14 points and 11 rebounds in the effort for Assigeco BPL. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Sigma Barcellona moved-up to third place, which they share with Fastweb CM. Loser Assigeco BPL dropped to the tenth position with eight games lost. Sigma Barcellona will face Trenkwalder RE (#14) in Reggio Emilia in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Assigeco BPL will play at home against Aget Imola (#8) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
