Regular Season Round 10: Kavala - Ikaros 66-69

Very important is a home loss of third ranked Kavala (6-4) against ninth ranked Ikaros (5-5) on Wednesday night. Host Kavala was edged by ninth ranked Ikaros (5-5) in a tough game in Kavala 66-69. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Kavala. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 17-10. But Kavala won second period 22-17. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The former international guard Giannis Kalambokis (195-78, agency: FCM) notched 13 points and 4 assists to lead the effort and American forward Deon Thompson (203-88, college: N.Carolina) supported him with 10 points and 8 rebounds. Even 16 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists by Belizean guard Milton Palacio (190-78, college: Colorado St.) did not help to save the game for Kavala. Serbian forward Branko Jorovic (205-81, agency: Beo Basket) added 14 points and 10 rebounds for lost side. Four Kavala players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Ikaros moved-up to sixth place, which they share with 3 other teams. Kavala at the other side keeps the third position with four games lost. They share it with Aris and VAP Kolossos. Ikaros will play against league's second-placed Panathinaikos in Athens in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Kavala will play on the road against the league's leader Olympiakos in Athens and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
