Regular Season Round 12: Shanghai S. - Guangdong ST 81-112

Everything went according to plan when third ranked Guandong Tigers (8-3) outleveled on the road 9th ranked Shanghai Sharks (5-7) 112-81. It looked good early as Shanghai Sharks took an 4-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Guandong Tigers had a 22-10 second period charge getting the lead and Shanghai Sharks were not able to take back game control losing it eventually 81-112. Guandong Tigers dominated down low during the game scoring 74 of its points in the paint compared to Shanghai Sharks' 46. Guandong Tigers forced 19 Shanghai Sharks turnovers and outrebounded them 54-35 including a 39-22 advantage in defensive rebounds. Guandong Tigers brought some defensive toughness making 12 blocks. Shanghai Sharks were plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a good game for center Zheng Wang (216-90) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 12 points, 17 rebounds and 8 blocks. International forward Dong Hanlin (208-91) contributed with 19 points and 7 rebounds (on 8-of-9 shooting from the field) for the winners. American forward Mike Harris (198-83, college: Rice) replied with a double-double by scoring 24 points and 13 rebounds and center Fei Peng (203-87) added 22 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for Shanghai Sharks. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Guandong Tigers maintains third position with 8-3 record having just three points less than leader Xinjiang. Shanghai Sharks lost fourth consecutive game. They dropped to the eleventh place with seven games lost. Guandong Tigers will play against Shanxi Zhongyu (#14) in Taiyuan in the next round which should be another easy win for them. Shanghai Sharks will play on the road against Fujian SBS XunXin in Jinjiang and hope to get back on the winning track.
