Everything went according to plan when eleventh ranked Bizkaia Bilbao (8-7) beat at home 13th ranked Asefa Estudiantes (6-9) 66-57 on Saturday. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Asefa Estudiantes won third quarter 15-11. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. It was a great evening for Croatian forward Marko Banic (205-84) who led his team to a victory scoring 20 points (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field). American guard Aaron Jackson (193-86, college: Duquesne) helped adding 14 points and 4 assists. The best for the losing side was American forward Nik Caner-Medley (203-83, college: Maryland, agency: Priority Sports) with 16 points and 6 rebounds and Italian-Argentinian guard Pancho Jasen (199-78) scored 13 points and 6 rebounds. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Bizkaia Bilbao moved-up to eighth place, which they share with Gran Canaria. Loser Asefa Estudiantes keeps the thirteenth position with nine games lost. Bizkaia Bilbao will face Menorca Basquet (#16) in Mahon in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Asefa Estudiantes will play at home against Assignia Manresa and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
