Regular Season Round 17: Challans - St Chamond 69-77

There was a small surprise when tenth ranked Saint Chamond (8-9) beat on the road 8th ranked Vendee Challans (8-9) 77-69 on Saturday. The guests trailed by 5 points at the halftime before their 44-31 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. Saint Chamond forced 20 Vendee Challans turnovers. Forward Regis Aubry (199-82) stepped up and scored 19 points and 8 rebounds for the winners and American forward Alain Laroche (198-83, college: N.Florida) chipped in 21 points and 7 rebounds. Four Saint Chamond players scored in double figures. American forward Juwann James (198-87, college: JMU) responded with a double-double by scoring 27 points and 12 rebounds and American-Italian guard Eric Schmieder (190-79, college: Drexel, agency: R.H.Consultancy) scored 10 points and 4 assists. The victory was the third consecutive win for Saint Chamond. They moved-up to ninth place, which they share with 3 other teams including defeated Vendee Challans. Saint Chamond will face higher ranked Angers BC 49 (#4) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
