A very close game took place in Alicante between CAI Zaragoza and Meridiano Alicante. Fifteenth ranked CAI Zaragoza (6-9) got a very close victory on the road over 17th ranked Meridiano Alicante (4-11). CAI Zaragoza managed to escape with a 1-point win 58-57 on Sunday evening. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Meridiano Alicante won third quarter 13-11. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when CAI Zaragoza won last quarter 13-13. The best player for the winners was Belgian guard Sam Van Rossom (188-86) who scored 19 points. Naturalized Brazilian center Rafael Hettsheimeir (206-86) chipped in 3 points and 8 rebounds. CAI Zaragoza's coach Jose Luis Abos used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. At the other side the best for losing team was Slovakian power forward Martin Rancik (204-78, college: Iowa St.) who recorded 12 points and 6 rebounds and Lithuanian power forward Martynas Andriuskevicius (218-86, agency: Interperformances) added 10 points and 6 rebounds respectively. CAI Zaragoza moved-up to thirteenth place, which they share with Estudiantes. Loser Meridiano Alicante dropped to the sixteenth position with 11 games lost. They share it with Menorca. CAI Zaragoza will meet at home higher ranked Lagun Aro GBC (#11) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Meridiano Alicante will play against the league's leader Regal FC Barcelona (#1) where they are definitely not considered as a favorite in this game either.
